The Hat Game was developed by Chris, Brandon, and Ally Morency as a practical solution to everyday decision-making. The inspiration stemmed from a particular evening when each individual had a different restaurant in mind, but the inconvenience of traveling to multiple locations rendered consensus difficult. To resolve this, they placed the names of their preferred destinations into a hat; the chosen location was determined randomly by drawing one name.

What began as a simple method for selecting restaurants quickly expanded to broader applications, including choosing movies, vacation destinations, and other group activities. The game has proven to be an effective and engaging way to make decisions fairly and collaboratively, and its use continues to this day.
